About This Dog

Duchess's ideal home

Duchess is a beautiful 1 year 9 month old (approx) girl with a gentle nature who is looking for a patient and understanding family to help her discover that the world isn't so scary. She can feel worried and conflicted when meeting new people, so she'll need adopters who are happy to visit her several times and let her build trust at her own pace. Once she begins to feel safe, her sweet personality starts to shine through. In her foster home, she has blossomed into an affectionate girl who enjoys seeking attention from her carers and absolutely loves playing with her teddies. Duchess is still learning about home life and isn't fully housetrained, as she has been using puppy pads and may still have the occasional accident. She also finds being left alone very difficult and will cry and toilet if left, so any time spent alone will need to be introduced very gradually as she settles and gains confidence. She currently sleeps downstairs overnight if a light is left on for her.

Could you be Duchess's perfect match?

Duchess could live with primary school-aged children who are confident around dogs and understand when she needs space. She may also be able to live with a calm, confident resident dog following a successful introduction, as a canine companion could help her continue to build confidence. If the resident dog is male, he will need to be neutered. She has not yet built the confidence to enjoy walks and, when she was at the rehoming centre, found being on lead very overwhelming, often staying low to the ground and seeking quiet corners. Duchess will benefit from walks in quieter locations away from traffic. With time, patience and positive encouragement, Duchess has every chance to continue making wonderful progress. She is searching for a calm, loving home that will celebrate every small step forward and give her the security she needs to truly flourish. Please note Duchess is in foster and not available to see at the centre.
